My intention to produce an up-to date account of the Advance Medical Knowledge that would be of particular value to the General Physician and to the post graduate students seeking higher qualifications. The introduction of various researches on human health and environment with findings will surely enrich reader of this book with update knowledge about diseases and environment.Knowledge is Power and health research is essential for advancing health and development, for guiding health action and generating information to enable community in achieving better health, developing powerful tools against diseases, vaccine to prevent diseases, pesticides to control disease vectors, for providing basis for effective planning and wise use of scarce resources, and fostering a scientific problem solving culture and finally for leading to a process. Health is not only a beneficiary of development but also a spur to it as well.
Most of the chapters of this book have new leading figures in the teaching of medicine. In this book, recent scientific advances in diseases epidemiology, pathology, therapeutic innovation, control and preventive methods basing on research findings have been included.The recent explosion of knowledge in molecular and cell biology has been incorporated in this book. Accident and injuries, traveller's health, kala-azar, rabies, obesity, leprosy, nutrition and development, schistosomiasis, iodine deficiency disease have been dealt with extensively.
This book has been written in two parts, Part-1 deals with research on varieties subjects with findings and recommendations while Part-2 depicts with update topics on emerging and re-emerging diseases covering communicable and non-communicable disease.The research topics and emerging disease are relevant to priority problems of National and International arena. The volume contains 103 figures, 111 Tables and 11 maps, which will provide easy understanding of the subject by the reader.
I hope publication and reading of this volume will stimulate scientists, such as health and environmental activists, civil society, policy planners and decision-makers, medical and public health professional to understand gravity of environmental, disaster and health related problems.
